San Miguel Market much more than tapas

Wrought iron and glass 20th century market

San Miguel market is not the typical grocery market but the best gourmet tapas that you can find in Madrid centre. Is the most popular covered market of Madrid and also one of the more beautiful ones.

There is a huge variety of products, from sea food to the most delicate tapas. You can find Iberian ham, fried fish, Spanish omelette, homemade burrata and all the variety of tapas you can think of. Everything is fresh and the quality is excellent, in my humble opinion if you do not go there you will regret it. You don’t have to try everything, because is expensive, but just try a couple of tapas with a beer or with a natural cocktail.

In case you don’t know it, “the tapas” works like any other Spanish bar, you order your drink and what you want to eat and you paid at the end, not every time that you order something. The waiter will keep in mind everything that you order and put everything together in the bill.

San Miguel market is very close to the Plaza Mayor and the Puerta del Sol.

Opening times: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, is open from 10:00 to 24:00. Thursday, Friday and Saturday is open from 10:00 to 02:00.

For your information, even if there is a lot of tourists visiting the market, it will be pretty crowded from 13:30 to 15:00 and from 20:00 to 23:00, but that also the beauty of the place. Remember that Spanish people are loudly!

The address of the San Miguel market in case you want to go by taxi or car is Plaza de San Miguel, Madrid.

There are two buses that will take you there, line 3 and 148. You can also take the subway to Sol station (L1, L2 and L3) or Opera (L2, L5 and R).
